South Central College’s academic advisors are dedicated to enhancing each student’s academic goals, while assisting students in making decisions and developing educational and career plans. At SCC, students are advised by both faculty advisors and academic advisors located in the Student Affairs Center.

Advisors are available to assist students with advising regarding:

  • Accuplacer exam interpretation or placement test interpretation
  • Degree or program of study selection
  • Course selection and course sequences
  • Degree and graduation requirements
  • Degree Audit Report (DAR’s Report) interpretation
  • Campus resources available for students

How do I get assigned to an advisor?
Students in technical programs (i.e. Marketing, Agribusiness, Automotive Services, Phlebotomy, Computers, Carpentry, etc.) are assigned a faculty advisor in your program of study, and you can also get help from an academic advisor in the Student Affairs Center that is a liaison to your specific major.

Students in programs that are related to taking general education courses including the Associate of Arts degree, as well as students with an undecided major are assigned to a academic advisor in the Student Affairs Center.

Students that are in the pre-health majors are also assigned to a academic advisor while they are taking prerequisite courses prior to applying to specific program (Pre-Nursing, Pre-Dental Assisting, Pre-Medical Assisting, Etc..)

If I am an admitted and registered degree seeking student, where do I find out who my advisor is?
Refer to your Degree Audit Report which is available via your E-Services account. A link about how to access your Degree Audit Report is included for your convenience:  You can also visit the Student Affairs Center to find out who your advisor is.

What if I am a newly admitted degree seeking student and have questions?
If you are new to the South Central College community as a degree seeking student, professional academic advisors will be available at your on-campus registration session where you will register for your classes. A listing of academic programs is provided on our Majors and Programs page. Please review your academic program web pages so that you can learn about the requirements for the degree that you are pursuing.  When you go to your major you can find the available degree options and for some majors if you click on the degree you may also find a course sequence link that shows how you should plan to take your classes. If you have additional questions after reviewing your academic program web pages, please contact the Admissions and Academic Advising Team for assistance.
