Mike Bauer of Delano and Daniel Kaiser of Medford have been named South Central College’s 2018 Outstanding Alumni. South Central College (SCC) will honor them at the college’s Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 10 at 4 p.m. in Bresnan Arena on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Mike Bauer, SCC’s Faribault campus honoree, is the owner and president of Bauer Design Build, a commercial general contracting firm in Plymouth.
Mike’s 38 year career in the construction industry began when, after graduating from Faribault High School, he attended South Central College (then Faribault Area Vocational School) and earned a degree in carpentry. Mike worked for Ryan Companies for 16 years before starting Baurer Design Group. Mike finds great satisfaction in knowing that he is able to share his knowledge and passion for the construction industry with his clients and business partners daily. Mike places a great deal of importance on company culture and living Bauer Design Build’s corporate values: client focus, integrity, transparency, relationships, leadership and community. Mike received the Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award from Wright County Economic Development Partnership in 2016 and Entrepreneur of the Year by TwinWest Chamber of Commerce in 2017. Bauer Design Build was named Business of the Year by the Delano Area Chamber of Commerce in 2016 and recently recognized by the Minnesota Subcontractors Association with the TOPS Award as General Contractor of the Year for 2017. In addition to his degree from South Central College, Mike also earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration/construction from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Mike sits on numerous boards and is actively involved in community organizations in Delano where he lives with his wife Lori and son Jake.
Daniel Kaiser, SCC’s North Mankato campus honoree, is a Deputy State Fire Marshal for the State of Minnesota.
Daniel received his degree in architectural drafting from South Central College (then Mankato Area Vocational Technical Institute) in 1978. Following several years as a draftsman in the housing industry, Dan was recruited to become a designer in a new and upcoming industry – fire sprinklers. During his 16 years with a southern Minnesota Fire sprinkler contractor, Dan advanced from a sprinkler designer to vice president of the company. In 1996, Dan took the leap into self-employment and started Fire Protection Services (FPS), which is still in existence and completes plan reviews for many cities in Minnesota. In 2005, he started at the State of Minnesota as a Deputy State Fire Marshall. Working in the Fire Sprinkler Division, Dan has achieved the highest level of certification from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies and has also been recruited by them to assist in their test writing sessions. Dan sits on several state and national committees. In 2015, he received the prestigious Fire Sprinklers Save Lives Award from the American Fire Sprinkler Association. Dan and his wife of 39 years, Mona, reside in Medford and have three grown children and eight grandchildren. He has served as a council member for the city of Medford and was the city’s mayor for 18 years. Dan is currently active in his church and currently serves as president of the congregation.
